Pick Up a £1,000 Recruitment Subsidy

Thanks to a partnership between City College Norwich and JobCentre Plus to provide work-focussed training to individuals who have been unemployed for 6 months or more, you could receive a £1,000 subsidy for recruiting a graduate from the scheme.

The College receives referrals from JobCentre Plus of individuals (aged 19 and over) who have been unemployed for 6 months or more and then provides retraining in a vocational area where there are skills shortages and known demand from local employers.

Initially focussing on retail and hospitality, training has also been delivered in other areas including health and social care, business finance and electronics. The training courses last for between 5 and 12 weeks, depending on whether they are taken on a full-time or part-time basis. In addition to being trained in particular vocational skills, all participants receive training in employability skills from the College’s BusinessFirst team.

At the end of the training period the College aims to find a job with a local employer for the unemployed trainee. Employers are incentivised to support the scheme with a £1,000 payment for each person they take on (£500 up front, £500 after they’ve been in employment for 6 months) and the College seeks to provide ongoing training and support, with the aim of ensuring that both employer and employee benefit from a sustained focus on skills development.
