College Redevelopment To Push Ahead

Preparations for the exciting redevelopment of City College Norwich will continue as planned despite a delay in the funding approval process. The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) has announced that it is deferring by 3 months the approval process for college redevelopment projects. In spite of this delay, City College Norwich remains ready to hit the ground running once the go ahead is given.

The Learning and Skills Council’s decision to defer its approvals for capital funding is affecting 22 college redevelopment projects across the country. The LSC National Council is now due to consider these projects in early March 2009.

Dick Palmer, City College Norwich Principal, said: “Whilst the delay is frustrating, we are confident it is only a matter of time before we are given the green light. We are continuing to consult and engage with local politicians, employers and the local community so that we are ready for the go ahead.

“We are determined to create the world-class campus that our students and a world class city like Norwich deserve. We have put forward a compelling and exciting vision for a 21st Century College. We have the chance to create a state-of-the-art campus in which students can be motivated and inspired for decades to come.”

The current economic challenges underlines the importance of developing first-class facilities so that City College Norwich can meet the requirements local people needing to re-train to remain in work or return to the workforce, whilst continuing the vital task of equipping Norfolk’s young people with the skills they need to go on to university or into work.
